Summary :
1973 season, surveyed 1/3 of village, S and E of church. 5 houses identified, 1 of long-house type 16x6m.
1976, survey completed. A total of 25 habitation sites identified. C12th-C18th surface sherds from the village itself.

Hyder Operations have replaced two existing electricity poles that are located within the sheduled Ancient monument of the deserted medieval village of Runston, Monmouthshire. As part of the conditions of the sheduled ancient monument consent the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological trust undertook a watching brief on the excavations of the trenches for these structures. No Archaeological deposits were encountered during the watching brief (Howell, 2000)
