Area of medieval settlement associated with the castle and village of Skenfrith, on the W outskirts of the latter. Surface indications of buildings have been confirmed by trial excavations (MAS), revealing stone buildings of C13th-C14th date, preceded by a timber phase.
The site lies in 2 adjacent pasture fields, one on either side of the village street. The boundary of the N area lies parallel to the street, 20 yards to its N. The S area is demarcated on 3 sides by field boundaries. The SW boundary is parallel to that on the NE, and 45 yards from it.
