This 40m long tunnel with cuttings at either end assisted its associated tramroad (PRN 7834.0g) in maintaining a level track along the steep contour of the northern side of Blorenge and avoid passing through a separate parcel of enclosed land. Of national importance as a well preserved early railway tunnel on an important tramroad associated with the scheduled sites at Garnddyrys Forge, Blaenavon Ironworks, Pwll du tunnel and Pwll du Quarry.
